Just a short 10-minute walk from the harbour, you’ll come across Place des Lices Market in the old town. Here you’ll find a lovely market in the morning on Tuesdays and Saturdays that sells flowers, souvenirs and fresh produce. In the square, you may find locals playing a game of “boules,” the French ball game.
At the Place des Lices Market, you’ll get the feeling of the old charming St Tropez, as you’ll have a break from the luxury side and shop alongside locals.
You can also simply take in all of the hustle and bustle and people-watch at a streetside café while experiencing all the beautiful fresh produce that makes up the local cuisine. And those who want to explore the local food and wine further will love this guided food tour of the city.
Citadel of Saint-Tropez Museum of Maritime
After the Place des Lices Market, you’ll walk to the Citadel of Saint-Tropez Museum of Maritime, where you’ll get a breathtaking overview of the city from above. The museum is located at a fortress from the 16th century.
While in the past the fortress used to protect the city from possible invasions, it now houses historical maritime artefacts and various treasures like a ship from the 16th century. Here you’ll learn about St Tropez’s interesting seafarer history and more.

Visiting St. Tropez was on my travel bucket list for years, and yes, it’s as every bit as glamorous as you would imagine. Within hours of arriving, I was already trying to convince my husband Matt to plan a trip back there. As someone who’s a little less, what’s the word – exuberant – about travel as I am, even he said he’d like to visit St. Tropez again. With its effortless glamour, pristine waters, and laidback lifestyle, it’s easy to see why the French Riviera has been a luxury destination for all these years.
What was once a sleepy fishing village, St. Tropez drew in painters like Paul Signac and Henri Matisse, then later gave way to Hollywood types when Brigette Bardot’s And God Created Woman catapulted the town to international fame. On any given day in St. Tropez, you can see the intersection of both: old, but well-maintained candy-colored buildings that meet the blue Mediterranean waters lined with giant yachts. St. Tropez is super clean, we felt safe, and there’s enough to do while still feeling like you’re on a relaxing vacation.

Gina’s
This is a sister spot to Le Café. Although similar in cuisine (Italian) and décor, Gina’s overlooks the port and water instead of Place de Lices, providing prime viewing for the passerbys and yachts.
I got a truffle pasta (the limit does not exist on truffle consumption) and Matt got a veal chop. I know, we really branched out, but if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
Good vibes, good food, and good people watching. And that’s really all you need in life, right?
