Do zabiegów depilacji laserowej należy się odpowiednio przygotować. Podobne przygotowania mogą trwać nawet miesiąc, dlatego najlepiej skonsultować się z lekarzem, który będzie wykonywał depilację i omówić szczegóły. Przygotowania do zabiegu depilacji są z reguły zależne od kondycji zdrowia danej osoby, koloru i jakości włosów. Jest jednak lista przykazań przed zabiegiem, do których musi zastosować się każdy:
- pół roku przed zabiegiem należy zrezygnować z kuracji doustnej retinoidami,
- należy zaprzestać depilacji (usuwania owłosienia) już miesiąc przed planowanym zabiegiem,
- trzy tygodnie przed zabiegiem należy zaprzestać stosowania maści z retinoidami,
- dwa przed zabiegiem należy odstawić leki światło uwrażliwiające (fototoksyczne, fotoalergiczne) i zioła o takim działaniu np. dziurawiec, nagietek,
- przez kilka tygodni przed zabiegiem należy zrezygnować z opalania (także solarium),
- w przypadku opalenizny uzyskanej samoopalaczami, depilacja jest możliwa po jej ustąpieniu.
