A Final Word
In the wild, a colony of honey bees might just leave a cavity of old black honeycomb – and make a fresh start. But, as beekeepers we have a responsibility to do our part to keep them healthy and happy.
Master Beekeeper, Charlotte Anderson shares her love of all things honeybee. She helps others become better beekeepers and teaches new beekeepers how to get started. Her mission is spreading awareness of the importance of honey bees. She is a former Beekeeper of the Year in South Carolina.

Ornate Sofa Table Makeover
Hello amazing friends!! I’m here today with a gorgeous sofa table I found at the thrift store. It’s a fantastic piece to show how to apply black wax!
Before I get to that, today is also Furniture Fixer Upper Day which means I am being joined by four of my favorite blogger friends who are also sharing furniture makeovers of their own! Be sure to check out their projects at the bottom!
This table was originally marked $28, but I had a full punch card that earned me an additional 20% off, so it was only $22!
What a steal…check out those gorgeous details!
It doesn’t look like it in the before photos, but it actually appeared kind of yellow.
I loved the way the glaze the played up the details though, so I decided to do a similar finish using wax.
After giving the whole thing a good cleaning with White Lightning, I gave the table two coats of Sea Glass:
I painted my neighbor’s bedroom furniture in this lovely color earlier this year.
It took just over half of an 8oz jar of Sea Glass to paint this table with two coats:
Next, I gathered my both my black wax and my clear wax, a clean cloth, and my wax brush…
What I love about Dixie Belle’s wax is that it has hardly any smell to it, it is water-based, and it’s available in two sizes, 10 oz and a smaller, 4oz. It’s the perfect size if you don’t use wax often.
Preparing the Mahogany Table for Paint
The first thing to do is to sand the tabletop. The table top has major discoloration and scratches which lead me to use the electric sander . This way I can smooth out the top as much as possible. I share a video of how I sand indoors without making a dusty mess in this post: The Best Tips & Secrets You Need to Know for Painting Furniture
Next, it’s time to clean. Since there are so many crevices with all of those gorgeous details I am grabbing an old toothbrush to get the dirt and dust out of these areas.
When the toothbrush doesn’t fully cut it, grab a scrub brush 🙂 Here is my full process on How to Prep Painted Furniture .
Once you are satisfied with your sanding and cleaning we can move on.
Painting a Base Color on a Vintage Claw Foot Table
To be perfectly honest I have had a hankering to paint something red. It’s not often that anyone requests red so I’m doing it. But since Dixie Belle has so many gorgeous reds to choose from I may have to use them all. You can get them online HERE .
